The Ateneo Women’s Week 2011 is in a week! From February 28 til March 4, we’ll be having different activities and events open to everyone: kahit hindi ka Atenista, kahit hindi ka babae, kahit hindi ka taga Fine Arts o School of Humanities. Kahit sino talaga! Please take your time to read through the text below to learn more about the events and its specifics. :) Through the celebration of creativity, the team aims to shed light on the Filipina’s experiences and realities. The team also recognizes the collaborative effort of men and women and therefore, our goal is to involve the entire community in this celebration.
A Woman’s Right: A Panel Discussion
This discussion seeks to deal with the legal rights of women in the Philippines, in order to help disseminate information which should be known to all Filipinos. This information is valuable as the silence a woman keeps in spite of abusive circumstances often comes from an ignorance regarding her rights and the measures that can be taken against her oppressors. As students of the Ateneo, and therefore, harbingers of the ideal of magis, it is our responsibility to be aware of these facts so that we are able to help those who are left in the dark.

4:30-6PM, Faura AVR
Girl on Girl: A Health Talk
This talk dwells on issues catering to the needs of young adult women with regards to the importance of regular and proper gynecological care and basic self-defense. By limiting our discussion to these topics, we would be able to instill the importance of maintaining the care for one’s body, as well as safeguarding one’s sexuality. This is an opportunity for Ateneans to be responsible for others by disseminating this knowledge concerning information that every woman should be familiar with.

Case Studies: An Art Exhibit
The theme of the exhibit revolves around case studies of any kind of violence against women in the Philippines. A particular artwork, depending on the artist, is essentially set to encourage women to stand up for their rights and overcome the abuse. This is a venue for artists to express their social and political ideals through their craft.

Star! by Edna Manpalaz
Ateneo Women’s Week 2011 present Star! by Edna Manlapaz. Star! is a biography about Estrella Alfon, a renowned Filipina writer. With the help of the Fine Arts Department and the various theatrical organizations of the Ateneo, this production will hopefully rouse its audience to the awareness of women’s concerns and set light on women’s realities. This activity would serve as another venue for artists affiliated with the Ateneo, such as theater performers, writers, and directors, to show their support through participation in the social and political celebration of feminism.
